Selective continuous quantum measurements : Restricted path integrals and wave equations ∗

چکیده
We discuss both the restricted path integral (RPI) and the wave equation (WE) techniques in the theory of continuous quantum measurements. We intend to make Mensky’s fresh review complete by transforming his ”effective” WE with complex Hamiltonian into Itodifferential equations. submitted to Phys. Lett. A † E-mail: [email protected]

Complexified Path Integrals and the Phases of Quantum field Theory
The path integral by which quantum field theories are defined is a particular solution of a set of functional differential equations arising from the Schwinger action principle. In fact these equations have a multitude of additional solutions which are described by integrals over a complexified path. We discuss properties of the additional solutions which, although generally disregarded, may be...
متن کاملImpulsive quantum measurements: restricted path integral versus von Neumann collapse
The relation between the restricted path integral approach to quantum measurement theory and the commonly accepted von Neumann wavefunction collapse postulate is presented. It is argued that in the limit of impulsive measurements the two approaches lead to the same predictions. The example of repeated impulsive quantum measurements of position performed on a harmonic oscillator is discussed in ...
متن کاملQuantum Phenomenology with the Path Integral Approach
A quantum measurement model based upon restricted path-integrals allows us to study measurements of generalized position in various one-dimensional systems of phenomenological interest. After a general overview of the method we discuss the cases of a harmonic oscillator, a bistable potential and two coupled systems, briefly illustrating their applications. متن کاملA History of Feynman’s Sum over Histories in Quantum Mechanics
Exact calculations of Feynman’s path integrals (defined on a time lattice) are mainly based on recurrence integral formulas in which the convolution of two functions having a common feature retains the same feature. Therefore, exactly soluble path integrals in quantum mechanics may be classified by their recurrence integral formula used in the calculation. According to this classification, ther...
متن کامل1 4 O ct 1 99 8 Coherent State Path Integrals at ( Nearly ) 40
Coherent states can be used for diverse applications in quantum physics including the construction of coherent state path integrals. Most definitions make use of a lattice regularization; however, recent definitions employ a continuous-time regularization that may involve a Wiener measure concentrated on continuous phase space paths. The introduction of constraints is both natural and economica...
